Intensive English Language Program

Students who do not meet the minimum English language proficiency standards for admission to the University of New England may enroll in an Intensive English Language Program (IELP) prior to gaining full admission to one of UNE's undergraduate or graduate programs. UNE offers conditional admission to undergraduate students who complete the highest level of English as a Second Language (ESL) through three cooperative intensive English programs.

  1. Through a special agreement with the University of Southern Maine's Intensive English Language Program (IELP) in Portland, Maine, UNE offers English language support for direct enrollment into our undergraduate and selected graduate programs. The IELP program is offered through a 4-week session during the summer and 15-week sessions throughout the academic year. Students will enjoy all of the UNE campus facilities available on our Portland Campus through a special joint enrollment option. Facilities available for your use, include: campus center, computer labs, counseling services, fitness and recreation center, dinning hall, library and student activities.
