Portland combines small city sophistication with the great outdoors. You can boat and sail in Casco Bay or swim and relax at nearby beaches. The Greater Portland area also offers more than 100 miles of trails for jogging, biking, hiking, cross country skiing and other activities.

Outside Magazine has listed Portland among "North America's 10 Dream Towns," the Natiional Restaurant Association has ranked the city as one of the "50 Cities that Sizzle," the Children's Rights Council has rated Portland the "No. 1 Place to Raise a Child," and the book The Best Small Arts Towns in America  has ranked Portland 4th in the nation.
