The Clinical Simulation Program

UNE health professions students are now using several new high-tech patient simulators to practice everything from inserting IV lines and treating wounds to  detecting abnormal heart sounds, listening to lung and abdominal sounds, CPR, intravenous medication, ventilation, and catheterization.

These patient simulators are housed in the Blewett Science Center on the Westbrook College Campus.

The equipment includes METI Human Patient Simulators and Laerdal SimMan simulators. The patient simulators are hooked up to computer programs in real time so these "patients" can actually respond to the students’ actions and can even hold "discussions" surrounding their care.

The Clinical Simulation Program is also conducting educational programs for professionals from healthcare institutions and agencies around the region, including programs for EMTs from local fire departments and National Guard units.
