Joseph H. Walsh
Joseph H. Walsh, D.O., Ph.D., dean of the University of New England's College of Osteopathic Medicine from 1985-1996, passed away on August 9, 2007 in Des Moines, Iowa. He was 73.
Born in Providence he was the son of the late Joseph H. and Marcella (Powell) Walsh. He is survived by his brothers, Edward J. and his wife Hope L. Walsh of Narragansett and John F. Walsh of Cranston and many nephews and nieces.
Dr. Walsh was the dean of Academic Affairs at the University of Des Moines College of Osteopathic Medicine before retiring. He earned his Ph.D. in inorganic-biochemistry at Georgetown University and then became a professor of chemistry at the University of Dayton, Ohio. He was a former member of the Marianist Brothers. He earned his D.O. at Des Moines University and completed his internship at the Cranston General Hospital. He had a private practice in Cranston.
