UNE celebrates the 175th anniversary of the Westbrook College Campus
This year the University of New England community celebrates the 175th anniversary of the Westbrook College Campus, an incredible achievement that is held by very few academic institutions in the United States. We can take great pride in the accomplishments of the many students, faculty and staff that have graced the campus during its 175 years.
To celebrate such an achievement, the University of New England has planned two events:
The Westbrook College Campus has always been unique in its existence. From the day the College’s charter was signed by Maine Governor Daniel E. Smith in March of 1831, it has continuously evolved into the entrepreneurial, intellectual and educational force it is today.
Identified by Bob Ripley in his syndicated “Believe it or Not” cartoon as “the only college in the U.S.A. which has been in three cities without ever moving,” Westbrook has moved forward in its intellectual and educational pursuits, and yet has always been located on the same bit of land called Stevens Plain.
