The Exhibition

The Art Gallery at the University of New England will mount an exhibition of the work of 12 couples: Andrea and Pieter von Voorst von Beest, Angela Adams and Sherwood Hamill, Charles Hewitt and Kate Carey, Jill Dalton and Ernie Paterno, Genetta McLean and Melville McLean, Aaron Stephan and Lauren Fensterstock, Roderick Dew and Kevin Callahan, Claudia DeMonte and Ed McGowan, Anthony Shostak and Crystal Nicholas, Bill Curtsinger and Kate Mahoney, Paul and Lorraine Star, and Crystal Cawley and David Wolfe.

To be explored are the creative impulses of people who live with each other.  Some of these artists are from away, although many are from Maine.  Some are old, others young; one deceased, some pre-eminent, others emerging.

Across all mediums from oil on canvas, prints, photography, textiles, and the computer, to works on paper and sculpture, these works ask us to ponder such age old questions as nature versus nurture, the importance of romance, righteousness, mind over matter, proximity, proclivity, love, sex, work and play – all in the name of art and the marriage of true minds.
