The Exhibition
This photographic exhibition features ten Maine women whose livelihoods have come from the land and celebrates the relationship between the land we live on and the soul and spirit of place.
In addition to Lauren Shaw's compelling photography, an interactive DVD shown within the installation further deepens the experience by showing the women's stories in their own words. The exhibition inspires the audience to look at the relationship they have to their personal surroundings and how that relationship affects their communities.
"Maine Women: Living on the Land" will travel throughout the state of Maine through August 2006, with educational events scheduled for the community. It will then be available to travel throughout the United States. One such event is a film showing that will be held at the SALT Institute for Documentary Studies at 110 Exchange Street in Portland on January 14, 2006 at 6:00 p.m. For more events, check www.laurenshaw.com.
