Collection Scope and Content

This collection contains 158 letter to and about Springfield, Massachusetts resident Barbara Kioske (created 1937-1956). It includes letters from multiple correspondents in the U.S military and local friends of Barbara.  Some of the regular letter writers telling Barbara about their lives include W.M.A Harold (Buddy) aboard the U.S.S Wilkes; Richard Green (Dick) stationed at the New York U.S Naval Training Station in Sampson, NY; Ray stationed at Camp Blanding, Florida; Steve in San Francisco; a son Rich who addresses his letters Mommy; and an individual Ruth who sends letters displaying spelling practice and lots of drawings. Accompanying the letters are some photo proofs and postcards.
