Collection Scope and Content

This collection consists of 58 letters to and from Captain Archie Legro (created 1914-1942). In the early letters, Archie was working for the Boston and Maine Railroad Company in Portland before moving to Rhode Island. Early letters came from his mother (Evelyn or Mamma) and someone named Sunny. Later letters came from a girl he knew overseas named Eva, his girlfriend Marion, his brother Harold, and his friends Eddie, Andy and Georgia.  Archie joined the Army as an engineer. He worked in Baltimore, Washington D.C. and at Ft. Lee in Florida. Most of the letters come from his girlfriend, Marion Treuthardt, who lived in Boston. Late in their correspondence she presumably moves to be with him, but in the last letters we learn that he is being transferred again, probably overseas. The collection also contains a birthday card, a note card, three letters between his friends Eva and Georgia, and a letter of promotion.

Arranged roughly chronologically.
