Student and Faculty Presentation of the Ghana Transcultural Immersion Learning Experience - March and August 2012

The Cross-cultural Immersion in Healthcare Program to Ghana, Africa integrates western health practices with fold medicine that is integral in providing culturally competent health care to all groups. Since 2008, UNE students, faculty and staff have been part of this long established partnership in the twin cities of Sekondi and Takoradi Ghana, West Africa. Students will learn about direct health services, interprofessional collaboration, community education, and academic and cross-cultural exchange.

Objectives:

1. Develop heightened awareness of health care and cultural congruence in the developing world.

2. Develop heightened awareness of the relevance of interprofessional teamwork in local, national and international health care practice.

3. Develop community consciousness, compassion and cultural humility.
