Hazardous Waste Minimization Program

What is Hazardous Waste Minimization?
It is the reduction or elimination of hazardous waste at the source of generation by various means including substitution, reduction, completion of reactions, segregation, reuse, and recycling among others.

Purpose
Reduce the generation of hazardous waste, and thereby lowering overall disposal costs and lowering risk to human health and the environment.

Objectives
  1) Increase AWARENESS of hazardous waste regulations and UNE’s Toxic Use Reduction Plan.
     
  2) Reduce generation of hazardous waste.

Targets
  1) 100% awareness of Toxic Use Reduction Policy by CAS faculty and staff.
     
  2) Reduce hazardous waste in CAS by 10% per laboratory student.
     
  3) 50% of focus group (generators) to participate in a hazardous waste minimization activity.
