Important Policies, and Forms
Policies
Academic policies are necessary rules that allow colleges to operate in a fair, predictable and ethical manner. They also allow colleges to maintain integrity of their academic environment by regulating such things as plagiarism and academic honesty.
Although it is a somewhat tedious process, every student should familiarize themselves with the academic policies (http://www.une.edu/registrar/catalog/0506/services5.html) of the College of Arts and Sciences. In particular, any time a student attempts a new administrative procedure, such as registering for a pass-fail course, withdrawing from a course, adding or dropping a course, etc., they should immediately consult the academic policy related to such tasks to determine the boundaries and rules involved.
Forms
Colleges and universities like any business rely on forms to document how students navigate the curriculum and processes involved in college life. College of Arts and Science academic forms are available to all students through the UNE Registrar's web page (http://www.une.edu/registrar/forms.asp).
Each form has directions as to how the form should be completed and submitted to achieve the procedure requested or intended. Registrar or CAS Dean's office staff can assist students who may need additional guidance or help with a form or procedure.
Can I ask for Exception to a Policy?
Students may request by petition to be considered for an exception to an academic policy that for some reason does not seem to fairly apply to their individual circumstance. Petition forms may be obtained here (http://www.une.edu/registrar/pdf/petition.pdf) . Please note that petition MUST have supporting signatures of advisors and department chairs and MUST be accompanied by a letter of support from a faculty member or academic administrator directly involved in the matter being petitioned. Completed petition with all required signatures and letter of support should then be submitted to the CAS Academic Dean's Office.
