ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

Kim Bernard, UNE's first Artist-in-Residence, will introduce students to the history, culture, chemistry and biology of henna tattoos.

Check out Kim's work at www.kimbernard.com or contact her at info@kimbernard.com.

The cube-shaped Art Gallery on UNE's Portland Campus houses a permanent collection of paintings, drawings, photographs and sculptures by nationally and internationally renown artists. It mounts six exhibitions each year in a variety of media that ranges from contemporary fine art, to photography, to international themes, to works by women and by Maine artists.

From June through October, the Gallery presents an Annual Sculpture Garden around its exterior. And on occasion, different exhibitions are arranged at other locations on our Portland and Biddeford campuses.

ARTSCI Coalition

The ARTSCI Coalition Committee provides additional opportunities for you to engage in arts projects, discussions, events, and productions with faculty, staff and visiting artists through its interdisciplinary mission to integrate the arts, humanities, and social sciences with the health professions and science programs at UNE.

Arts@UNE

The Office of Student Affairs collaborates with our Art programs to bring a variety of arts events to the Biddeford Campus, ranging from lunchtime concerts at the Alfond Cafe to poetry readings, to gallery exhibits at the Campus Center and Engine gallery in downtown Biddeford.

Engine in Biddeford and the Portland Arts Scene

Founded on the belief that artistic expression and creative vibrancy are the gateway to cultural, social, and economic revitalization, Engine is a leadership and advocacy organization committed to designing, launching, and promoting community-based arts programming. Engine partners with the UNE to hold student and faculty art shows at its Main Street gallery in Biddeford and also organizes an arts walk the final Friday of every month. In addition, Portland's arts scene includes the Portland Museum of ArtSPACE Gallery and numerous private and nonprofit art galleries.
