Biological Sciences
Biology is an exploration of the living world that underscores and explains the unity and diversity of life. But it is also a truly human endeavor in that it affects us all. Because we live at this time in human history – at the beginning of what many believe to be a biological age – students must be able to apply biological concepts to the wide array of problems and choices they inevitably face.
The University of New England at its coastal Maine campus in Biddeford offers biological science students:
- Bachelor of science degrees in five major fields of study: aquaculture and aquarium science, biological sciences, marine biology, medical biology and psychobiology
- Two master of science degrees, one in marine sciences and the other in biological sciences, for students interested in graduate training with a classroom curriculum providing a strong theoretical background, along with a focus on research experience
- Professional science masters (M.S.) degree in applied biosciences and technology. This innovative two-year program, offerd by the College of Health Professions, focuses on educating students for knowledge-based careers in industry and other professional programs.
- New state-of-the-art facilities for marine mammal rehabilitation, marine biology, medical biology, biological sciences, and aquaculture and aquarium science
- Small upper-level classes with hands-on learning and close interaction with faculty
- A campus on the southern Maine coast with a wide array of diverse habitats
