Medical Biology Major
| I am from southern Maine, currently living in Limerick. I just graduated May 2002 and my major was medical biology. I picked this major because I want to go to physician assistant school, or at least do something in the medical field. I picked UNE because it is a small school with small classes and also because it has the PA program. All my science labs were really great because we were provided with some really great hands-on work that made for valuable learning experiences. I especially liked my biology lab freshman year because we did a lot of our lab work outside, in the woods or at the beach. In the fall of my senior year I did an internship at York County Dialysis Center in Biddeford. I was already an employee there, which helped a lot because when I went to work I was also accruing internship hours. I wanted to work there because I felt it would give me good medical experience and hopefully a good idea about whether or not I would like to have a career in the medical field. |
The experience has been incredible. I found that I really like taking care of people who are sick (due to kidney failure), most of whom are elderly. The work there is often challenging and very stressful at times but it is also very rewarding. I plan on taking a year off from school and will continue to work at York County Dialysis. After that I hope to go to graduate school, most likely to become a physician assistant. (Last updated 5/02) |
