Facilities and Instrument Holdings
The Department of Chemistry and Physics is housed in Peter and Cecile Morgane Hall, with additional teaching and research laboratories in the Alfond Center for Health Sciences and Decary Hall. General Chemistry, Biochemistry, and General Physics teaching laboratories are located in Morgane Hall (as are some small research labs), while other advanced chemistry teaching and research laboratories are located on the third floor of the Alfond Center. Morgane Hall, opened in January, 2009, is a state of the art science education facility; in addition to the laboratories noted above, the buidling houses Chemistry/Physics faculty offices as well as biology teaching laboratories and offices. The Alfond Center, opened in 1997, is a modern science facility housing biology and College of Medicine labs, in addition to the advanced chemistry labs. A biochemistry research laboratory is located in Decary Hall. Students taking courses or doing research in the Department of Chemistry and Physics are able to gain hands-on experience using a wide range of modern chemical and biochemical instrumentation in facilities designed to be conducive to learning and research productivity.
