Faculty and Staff
The Department of Chemistry and Physics has a dynamic and energetic faculty dedicated to high quality undergraduate education. The faculty members have specifically chosen to teach and conduct research in an undergraduate setting. Faculty members stress understanding of principles, critical thinking, communication skills, and strategies for effective problem solving in their courses for both majors and nonmajors.
In addition to being dedicated teachers in the classroom, faculty members are actively involved in directing undergraduate research, an essential component of a quality undergraduate degree program in the sciences. Many opportunities exist for students to conduct cutting-edge research with a faculty mentor.
Members of the faculty have published the results of their research with undergraduates in the peer-reviewed literature, have been successful in securing extramural funding for their research and curriculum development efforts, and often take their students to national meetings in order to present the results of their research.
The members of the Department are listed below; further information about each individual's teaching and research interests may be found by following the links, where present.

Expertise
Fat and Bone Cell Differentiation
Jagged1/Notch and FGFR Signaling Networks
Biological Effects and Toxicology of Polybrominated Diphenyl Flame Retardants
Research Interests/ Scholarship
My research interests are focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms that regulate the differentiation of stem cells into either adipocytes (fat cells) or osteocytes (bone cells). Specifically, my lab examines the role of interactions between the Jagged1/Notch and FGFR signaling networks in these processes. In addition, I have also been studying how exposure to polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants and other environmental contaminants alters both adipocyte and bone cell development and if exposure can lead to diseases such as Diabetes and Osteoporosis.
