Citizenship 400 Seminar - Citizenship Service-Learning Center (CSLC)
- The CSLC offers an up-to-date listing of service opportunities to complement CIT400.
- The Center develops new service opportunities both individual and group, on-campus and off-campus.The group service opportunities focus is “Caring Neighborhoods.” Annual Days of Service include the Hills Beach/UNE Coastweek Cleanup and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Read In.
- Service Sites are encouraged to register with the CSLC. The registration includes the mission of the agency or service provider, contact information, job descriptions specific to collegiate volunteers and risk management information. A Fall Volunteer Service Fair is sponsored by the CSLC. Local businesses, agencies and organizations with volunteer needs are encouraged to attend and share their service opportunities with the UNE community.
- Group orientations and training are facilitated where needed.
- Student and Service Site Recognition programs are sponsored.
- Individual student consultation and class-room presentations are available. The CSLC coordinator can assist a student in defining his/her service interests and skills and then assist a student in matching opportunities to these concerns.
- The CSLC as a part of the Sociology Department actively seeks external funding. Since 2002, the CSLC received external funding from the following sources:
Campus Compact
Civic Reflecton, Lilly Foundation
Maine Community Foundation
Maine Commission for Community Service
Maine Department of Education
Maine Justice Council
Maine Juvenile Justice Advisory Group
Saco Bay Rotary
Their support is greatly appreciated.
