Environmental studies and science majors can work with the University of New England's Office of Study Abroad to select an appropriate program from a wide variety of study abroad programs with strong environmental content.
- Our students have spent semesters conducting ecological field research and learning about community based conservation in Kenya with the School for Field Studies; others have spent a semester in Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Guatemala with Augsburg College's Center for Global Education studying the intersection of social and environmental justice while working with local communities and organizations on a variety of projects.
- Environmental Studies faculty member Dr. Rick Peterson also plans to offer a semester long course on Environment and Development in East Africa that will culminate with a 2-3 week field experience in western Kenya. Students will explore the intersection of ecological and human health, visiting and working with a variety of local organizations seeking to improve environmental, social, and economic conditions around Lake Victoria.
