Athletic Training
The athletic trainer, with the consultation and supervision of attending and/or consulting physicians, is an integral part of the health care system associated with physical activity and sports.
The athletic trainer provides a variety of services, which include preventing, recognizing, managing and rehabilitating sports injuries. The athletic trainer functions in cooperation with medical personnel, athletic administrators, coaches, and parents in the development and coordination of efficient and responsive athletic health care delivery systems.
Athletic trainer positions are found in colleges or universities, school districts (primarily at the secondary level), professional sport organizations, hospitals or clinics, and athletic and fitness facilities.Exercise and Health Promotion
Exercise and health promotion majors graduate with the knowledge and skills necessary to prescribe exercise and health programs for healthy and health-limited populations; to counsel athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and health-compromised participants in safe exercise; and, to develop health promotion programming which leads people into lives of optimal health and wellness.
With this combination of science, health, and fitness courses, graduates are prepared for career opportunities involving physical activity programs in hospitals, industry, fitness facilities, and communities. The are employed in institutions and professional fields such as large medical centers, research laboratories, the field of athletics and conditioning, sports medicine, and corporate fitness.Sport Management
A sport management graduate of the University of New England is uniquely qualified to work in the areas of recreational and competitive sports and exercise and sport programs. Graduates are also qualified for careers as management professionals pursuing the activities associated with administration, supervision, and leadership.
During four years of study, students learn the foundations of organizational performance, and its specific application to all areas of sport; and, they apply the latest knowledge, skills and technology to facilities and program management. A few of the many professional opportunities graduates pursue are facilities management, events management, sports marketing and promotions, public relations, sports information, and ticket sales management, as well as careers as athletic directors, sports agents, or as staff of sports governing bodies.
