Argentina
Ariel Yablon, Ph.D., in May 2006, took students to Argentina in a course in Argentine history, culture and society as part of the Study Abroad Program of the University of New England. In this course, UNE students studied Argentina's past, met and interacted with local scholars and students, and soaked up modern-day culture while visiting the spectacular indigenous ruins of the Argentine Northwest, the Jesuit missions in the Northeast, and the haciendas in the Pampas region where gauchos (South-American cowboys) lived during the 19th century. Students also had plenty of time to hang out in the cosmopolitan city of Buenos Aires, one of the cultural capitals of South America.
