Developmental Mathematics Courses

While developmental mathematics courses certainly must focus on content and address mathematic deficiencies, faculty work with students to develop other “good-student” skills in order to prepare them for academic success. Attending class regularly, completing assignments thoroughly and on time, being an active learner, taking notes, etc. are all areas of focus. Classes meet two or three times each week and are limited to 20 or 24 students per section but generally, classes are much smaller. Learning Assistance Services faculty use a variety of instructional techniques for students who have had less than positive experiences with math in the past. Students are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the individual tutoring available at the Learning Assistance Center.
