Placement Exams at UNE

Placement testing allows us to consider each student’s current skill level in reading, writing and mathematics and will help us determine which courses are most appropriate for you.

The writing and mathematics placement exams are administered through Learning Assistance Services at UNE to most incoming students, typically during summer orientation.  Results are reported to the student's advisor prior to registration. Since transfer student transcripts are evaluated on an individual basis, the need for placement testing will be determined by the level of college Math and English courses that transfer to the University of New England.

It is important to remember that you cannot “fail” the writing or mathematics placement exams. Placement testing will benefit you by ensuring that you take courses that are appropriate to your current skill levels; additionally, it will help us at UNE to fulfill our commitment to maximizing your academic success. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Learning Assistance Center (207) 602-2443.
