Learning about the scientific process through hands-on experience is an integral part of courses in the Department of Marine Sciences. All of our Marine Sciences programs stress the importance of internships, field research and experiential learning. If you are an advanced student, you may also engage in high quality, independent research through our Honors Program under the supervision of a faculty mentor.
Internships and Research
You benefit from study of the UNE coastline. For further experience, you may turn to Maine's many local and regional labs, refuges and estuaries.
As an advanced student, you can engage in independent research under the supervision of a faculty mentor. Projects culminate with a written thesis and oral presentation.
You can travel to Panama, Belize or the Galapagos Island to study unique flora and fauna in a new environment.
