Mathematics is a great pre-med major. Data from the Association of American Medical Colleges shows that every year medical schools from around the country receive nearly 6,000 applications for less than 150 openings. Among 2005 MCAT Examinees, 60.4% of examinees were in the biological sciences and less than 0.7% were in mathematics and statistics, yet the mean MCAT scores were higher among the mathematics group than those in the biological science.
