The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers students the opportunity to explore and learn mathematics in small classes and interact frequently with faculty in and outside of classroom.

“I think small math classes are the perfect thing. Big classes don’t work for me. I need lots of interaction with my professor.”
- Emma Boucher ‘04

Instructional approaches emphasize student-centered learning, a strong theoretical base, and applications relevant to a variety of fields. Mathematics majors gain broad exposure to the various branches of the field of mathematics, while students seeking secondary mathematics teacher certification gain experience with teaching methods that can be applied to the high school classroom.

The department is located on the University of New England's seaside University Campus in Biddeford, Maine.
