Law - Many political science majors eventually pursue careers in law, and a number of political science courses focus on legal issues and processes.

Graduate Studies - An undergraduate degree in political science is excellent preparation for further graduate study in political science or other related fields such as public administration, business, public policy, journalism, film studies, international relations, political campaign management and many other fields.

Government Service - A political science major is also an excellent preparation for those contemplating careers in government service and public administration, either at the federal or state levels. Possibilities include working on the staff of an elected official or legislative body, working for a government agency, or serving as an elected public official. An undergraduate major in political science is also an excellent foundation for graduate work in the areas of public administration and public policy.

Foreign Service - Political science is also an excellent major for those planning careers in the foreign service agencies of the United States government, international political organizations, and international corporations.

NGO Public Service – Many political science graduates are finding rewarding careers in the rapidly expanding employment sector of non-profit/non-governmental organizations and associations, known as NGOs. There are NGOs at all levels of government and geographical areas from the local to the global. There are NGOs for virtually all public issues and policy areas, from neighborhood housing to national policy areas such as health and civil rights to global issues such as human rights, trade and the environment.

Teaching – Political science, combined with designated education courses and a teaching internship, can lead to state certification required to teach in elementary, middle and secondary schools.

Teaching and Research - Teaching and research at the college and university levels, after completing graduate work, is another popular career option for political science majors.

Media and Business - Many political science majors choose to pursue careers in journalism, film studies and business and industry, either directly upon completion of baccalaureate studies or through graduate work in those fields.
