Double Major: Political Science and Psychology and Social Relations

cichochiI was born in Warsaw, Poland. After three years my family was  expelled/forced to flee for political dissidence, which brought us to western Germany. After residing there for several years, we were admitted for residency status in the United States. After living in the U.S. for eight years, I returned to Warsaw after the wall fell and was educated there for about a year and half. Once this time frame expired, I returned to the United States to complete my high school education.

I graduated from the University of New England in May 2004 with a double major in psychology/social relations and political science. I chose the former because I felt that it would give me an insight into the minds and societal factors that contributed to bringing me to this country. The latter I chose because it too played a relevant part in deciding the outcome of my life thus far. As for why I chose UNE - well my guidance counselor thought that it would be a good place to keep me out of trouble and help me get focused as well as getting me out of the urban trap of New Jersey.

I feel that the program at UNE is one of the best programs in the state of Maine. This is due to the fact that class sizes are minute, allowing one to not only participate in class more but actually get to know one’s professors.

I greatly appreciate the fact that my professors, especially in my chosen departments, know my name and that I am not simply some serial number. At UNE, professors make time to speak directly to you; one does not have to go through a teaching assistant or anything of that nature. In short, the professors actually care about the quality of their teaching, and it shows through the time they make to interact and aid students in all their future endeavors.

In my departments it is mandatory to have an internship, if not two. My chosen internship was at Congressman Tom Allen’s office. This internship was pivotal in helping me decide what my future path would be.

Currently, I am studying at the American University in Cairo, Egypt. My program, the Arabic Language Institute, is designed to teach fluency in Modern Standard Arabic, as well as Aamia. After completing my studies in Cairo, I plan on attending the Fletcher School of Diplomacy and Law.
