View Press Release on Forgotten Voices Ali Abdullatif Ahmida was born in Libya and educated at Cairo University in Cairo, Egypt and the University of Washington in Seattle. His specialty is political theory, comparative politics, and historical sociology of power, agency and anti-colonial resistance in North Africa, especially modern Libya. He has published major articles in Critique, Arab Future and International Journal of Islamic and Arabic Studies. He is also the author of The Making of Modern Libya: State Formation, Colonialization and Resistance, a book published by State of New York University Press, 1994. This book has also been translated into Arabic and is now published in second edition by the Center of Arab Unity Studies, 1998, Beirut, Lebanon. Dr. Ahmida is the editor of Beyond Colonialism and Nationalism in the Maghrib: History, Culture and Politics, published by Palgrave Press in 2000. He has lectured in a variety of U.S., Canadian, European and African Universities and colleges, and has contributed several book reviews, articles and chapters to books on the African state, identity and alienation, class and state formation in modern Libya. Professor Ahmida has received many academic grants and awards, such as the Social Science Research Council National Grant Award, the Shahade Award, and recently the Kenneally Cup Award in 2003 for distinguished academic service at University of New England. His new book, Forgotten Voices: Power and Agency in Colonial and Postcolonial Libya, was published by Routledge press, 2005. It is being translated to Italian and Arabic languages and expected to be published in 2007. |

Brian Duff does research in the fields of political theory and American politics. In political theory, he focuses on modern political thought, particularly issues in feminist political theory and the ways ideas about children affect politics. In American politics, he is interested in the factors that influence the ways ordinary citizens think about and engage in politics. He teaches courses on the history of political theory, current debates in political theory, gender and politics, American political history, and political psychology. |

She has published a number of studies on the impact of race and ethnicity on voting behavior, and on women and politics. She has been an expert court witness on voting rights issues, and has made numerous appearances on radio and television programs, especially on elections. Dr. Featherman is the author of 50 scholarly journal articles, books, book chapters and monographs, 24 scholarly papers and more than 50 newspaper and magazine articles.These include "Women in Higher Education Management in the United States and Canada," in Women in Higher Education Management, published by UNESCO, "Barriers to Representing Women and Blacks in Pennsylvania: The Impacts of Demography, Culture and Structure," in United States Electoral Systems: Their Impact on Women and Minorities, and "Voting Rights: The Fight Moves North," in Focus, Volume 16, No. 1. |

Julie Mueller joined the faculty of UNE in January 2006 and teaches classes on international relations, international organization, globalization, international political economy, comparative politics, and U.S. foreign policy. Her current research focuses on the International Monetary Fund and examining how and why changes have taken place within this organization. Previous research includes examining the impact of women in development programs in Southern Africa. Dr. Mueller taught at the University of Delaware prior to coming to the University of New England. |

James B. Roche is a managing director at Gibson & Behman, P.C. where he does ERISA and insurance-related litigation. Mr. Roche attended St. Thomas University School of Law and the University of Connecticut School of Law
where he earned his J.D. and LL.M. in insurance law respectively. He is currently attending the Boston University School of Law where he is earning his LL.M. in tax law as well. Mr. Roche has taught numerous courses at both the law school and undergraduate level. Mr. Roche teaches the courses of Constitutional Law, Business Law, American Law & Politics, Introduction to Law and Health Law at both the Biddeford campus and Westbrook College Campus.
