Student/Alumni Profiles

Students in the Department of Psychology enjoy the campus's coastal location, the friendly and knowledgeable faculty, the small classes, and the variety of internship opportunities the programs provide.

Below are some links to profiles of some of our students and alumni, who share their experiences as students in the majoring in psychology.

Dariusz Cichocki '04 - "The professors actually care about the quality of their teaching, and it shows through the time they make to interact and aid students in all their future endeavors." Profile.

Amanda Clements '07 - "Although my goals have changed over my time at UNE, my major was a perfect fit.  Each course has taught me more about individuals, society, the world, and perhaps more importantly, about myself.  Furthermore, UNE has furthered my desire to learn." Profile.

Jeffrey Cole '09 - "The best thing about the psychology department is that the classes tend to be smaller allowing for students to have greater access to their professors." Profile.

Rebecca DePriest '06 - "I like how UNE is small. ... I love the location – you’re right there on the ocean. You can sit down by the water and just think. You can’t do that at Boston University, right there in the city. Not every university is sitting on an ocean!" Profile.

Danielle Doherty '05 - "The small size of UNE, allows for small classes, more attention in class, worthwhile class discussions, and personal attention outside of class. The professors at UNE are always available to meet with you for advising, help with course material, or just to say hi." Profile.

Crystal D. Hatch ‘02 - “I was able to take advantage of many resources at UNE, such as help from faculty, my advisor and career services. Everyone is always able to schedule time for you and they know you by face and name instead of as an ID number, which, in a new place, is very refreshing. At any point in my education at UNE I always felt as though I had someone to talk to either about courses, questions or concerns regarding the department, or personal problems.” Profile.

Nicole Lloyd '00 - “The most valuable part of my experience at UNE was the internship opportunities.I took full advantage of the required internships. In fact I made the decision to use some of my elective credits to participate in additional internship experiences. The internship classes provided me the chance to get my feet wet and begin gaining valuable experience.” Profile.

Natalie Lorge '09 - "I am currently the president of the Activities Programming Board (APB) and absolutely love it.  I have also created my own club on campus called Equine.  In this club we volunteer at a therapeutic riding center and also take dressage lessons." Profile

Sarah Lyman '08 - The professors are always available for help too, which makes the classes manageable. This allows me to have enough free time to join clubs and organizations on campus. I am a member of the Activities Program Board (APB) and Hall Council. They have given me the opportunity to meet new people, get involved in some of the student governing on campus, plan the great events we have on campus and learn some leadership skills. Profile

Misty Mallar '07 - "In a Psychological Assessment course, I conducted mock assessments and intake interviews with my classmates, then reported the results in a professional format. This was my first taste of clinical work, and was an excellent ‘real life’ exercise. " Profile.

Megan McBurnie '10: " One really unique thing is that most of the professors are conducting their own research. They are a diverse group of faculty researching a variety of topics, and there are opportunities for students to work in the labs with these professors."  Profile

Sean McGlew '10: "My favorite thing about UNE are definitely my professors. Trust me - I'm not searching for an A with this - it's completely true. They want to see each and every one of their students succeed and do what ever they can to help you get there." Profile

Sarah Morrell '08  - " I feel very comfortable just walking into my professors' offices and talking about anything I need to, whether it be about a class, what I would want to do in the future or even what is happening in my life. My professors have become my mentors."  Profile.

Jillian Morris '05 - “Volunteer work at UNE's Marine Animal Rehabilitation Center provided me with both veterinarian tech and animal care experience. My SCUBA training began at UNE and has led to Advanced, Nitrox and dry suit certification. ” Profile.

Megan Scerra '09 - "Through the University I have had the opportunity to have some great experiences in the field of psychology. As my internship, I worked as a direct support professional for Support Solutions. I enjoyed the experience so much that I continued to work for about a year's time."  Profile.

Heather Taylor '04 - "The Psychology Department at UNE has been nothing but helpful and caring through all four years I have been here. I have become close to many of the faculty members in this department; it is almost like a family." Profile.

Randall Thomas '05 - "The professors in various departments, especially the Psychology Department, supplied me with opportunities and encouragement to succeed, as they took an interest in my medical school goals. The professors were always available in their offices or through e-mails to offer me advice on any aspect of my life." Profile.

Lisa Wirth '04 - "I credit the faculty and staff of UNE for my success. Each person I came in contact with helped me in every way they could. Both the Psychology and Sociology departments have some amazing faculty and should be recognized for pushing not only academic excellence in their students but personal excellence as well."
