Mission

Coastal Healthy Communities Coalition’s (CHCC) aim is to reduce the risk for youth and community members around alcohol and other drugs. We work with community groups, schools and organizations to create drug free work environments.

Quick Facts

  • 11 % of high school students binge drink (consuming 5 or more drinks in one sitting).
  • In 2008, Maine had 46 fatalities from traffic accidents involving alcohol. 
  • Marijuana makes up the majority of illicit drug use in Maine. In 2007, 22% of high school students and 26 % of 18-25 year olds reported using marijuana in the past 30 days, giving Maine the third highest rate of marijuana use in the Nation. 
  • Prescription Narcotics accounted for 26% of the total admissions for substance abuse treatment in 2009, second only to alcohol related treatment admissions. 
  • In the past year 14% of 18-25 year olds used pain relievers for non-medical use, and 8 % reported using cocaine with in the past year. 
  • In Maine, Eighth graders have the highest reported rate of inhalant use.

Community Resources

Coastal Healthy Communities Coalition: (CHCC) provides substance abuse cessation support resources and assistance to worksites, schools, and community organizations in developing and implementing substance abuse policies. CHCC produces informational videos and provides information pamphlets to create an awareness drugs on the dangers of drugs. For help from CHCC please contact 207-602-3598.
