Through the close interaction of the College of Health Professions’ eight programs of study at the Westbrook College Campus in Portland, the University of New England is creating a dynamic, innovative model for health professions education.
Integrated, interdisciplinary health and healing (I2H2) education, training, research and practice is a multi-faceted approach for preparing health professionals to work collaboratively as members of health care teams to promote the best possible care and health outcomes. The I2H2 model represents a major shift in the traditional approach for preparing health professionals.
The University of New England’s College of Health Professions believes that the I2H2 initiative is going to be a model that will eventually be implemented throughout New England and the nation. The College’s graduates will be uniquely equipped to thrive in the new collaborative environment that hospitals and health care facilities demand – and clients and patients deserve.
Health professions students at UNE also benefit from state-of-the-art technology and teaching practices incorporated in the new Clinical Simulation Program, which will be part of the Performance Enhancement and Evaluation Center (PEEC), a facility devoted to improving clinical patient evaluation and management skills of health professions students and practitioners.
