Transfer Student Policy

UNE accepts qualified transfer students. Students wanting to enter the occupational therapy program (including COTAs and internal/external transfer students) will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

The minimum GPA to be considered from another institution is 2.75 (B-). A 3.0 (or B average) is preferred. The following guidelines apply:

  • The UNE OT program accepts transfer students at all program levels.

  • Students with a bachelor's degree in another field will not be held responsible for the UNE core curriculum courses. Those who transfer in with two years of course work will not be responsible for the first two years of the core curriculum.

  • Transfer students must have a minimum of 90 credits to enter the professional portion of the curriculum.

Transfer students need the following courses either completed prior to their fourth year:

 • English composition

 • Algebra (can be waived if the student passes math exam)

 • An applied creative art course (e.g. ceramics, pottery, theater production, etc.)

 • Physics or chemistry: either as a combined course or separately. A lab must be included

 • Human development: lifespan (two courses are usual but one, if it covers the entire lifespan, is acceptable)

 • Introduction to psychology

 • Abnormal psychology

 • Human anatomy, physiology and pathology - 2 semesters, with lab

 • Human Gross Anatomy

 • Neurology/Neuroanatomy

 • Introduction to occupational therapy. (This course, which may be taken on-line, includes medical terminology.)

 • Sociology/Anthropology

 • Statistics

 • Research methods

All these courses are available at UNE.  Some are available for qualified students during the summer term.  Exceptions to the above requirements may be considered for students who have taken related courses. Questions regarding the general transferring process should be directed to the Admissions Office. Students having questions about transferring to UNE are invited to contact Jan Froehlich, advising coordinator, (207) 221.4105 or Regi Robnett, director, (207) 221.4102, Department of Occupational Therapy, UNE.
