DPT Program Admissions Policies


admissionsThe faculty in the Department of Physical Therapy value a class comprised of students with diverse educational backgrounds and life experiences. Individuals with a bachelor's degree from any accredited institution are encouraged to apply for admission to the Doctor of Physical Therapy program.  The deadline for all completed applications to the Doctor of Physical Therapy program is February 1st.  Candidates interested in applying for early review must have completed applications in the Admissions Office by December 1st.**  Applicants cannot be reviewed for admission until the application file is complete.  A complete application file includes:

  • Admissions application
  • All official undergraduate transcripts
  • GRE transcripts
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Resume
  • Campus Interview
    1. Early review candidate interviews are being scheduled for Friday, November 30, 2007 
    2. On-campus interview dates for February 2008 deadline applicants have been expanded due to the size of our anticipated applicant pool and the need to provide for more flexibility for candidates.  Interviews will be scheduled for the following Fridays:

January 11, 2008

January 18, 2008

January 25, 2008

February 15, 2008

Applicants will be contacted by the Office of Graduate Admissions to schedule an interview.  (A telephone interview may be arranged in cases of extenuating circumstances that preclude participation in an on-campus interview.)

To be considered for admission to the DPT program, the applicant must:

1. Have a distinguished record of excellence and achievement in college as established by GPA, extracurricular activities, community involvement, GRE scores, and letters of recommendation.
   
2.

Successfully complete (with a minimum of "C" grade) the following prerequisite courses:

4 Credits of Biology¹
4 Credits of Anatomy¹ ²
4 Credits of Physiology¹ ²
4 Credits of Chemistry I¹
4 Credits of Chemistry II¹
4 Credits of Physics I¹
4 Credits of Physics II¹
3 Credits of Intro to Psychology
3 Credits in a Psychology elective
3 Credits in Statistics

Students may apply to the DPT program before completing all pre-requisite coursework but must successfully complete all pre-requisites before enrolling in any course in the DPT curriculum.

¹ Courses must include a laboratory component and be taught from the science department of the institution.  Survey courses taught in non-science departments will not satisfy the course requirements.

² A two-semester sequence of anatomy and physiology will satisfy these requirements.

 

**To be considered for early acceptance into the program, applicants must have a minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.3 and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 for the math/science pre-requisite courses.  All pre-requisite coursework must be completed prior to applying.  This early review option does not involve any commitment from the applicant to accept an offer of admission into the UNE program.

High School Students and High School Graduates
Outstanding high school students and high school graduates who have been accepted to any undergraduate major at UNE may be designated as a pre-physical therapy candidate. More information.
