Student and Alumni Profiles

The following comments and profiles are from students and alumni of the UNE Department of Physical Therapy's Doctor of Physical Therapy and Master of Physical Therapy programs. This program became a  Doctor of Physical Therapy Program with students who entered in fall 2004.

Students and alumni of the Physical Therapy Program like the small classes, the close interaction with faculty and other students, and the variety of experiences of their clinical rotations.

Tina Fennelly '09 - "The fact that we as students are able to sit with the dean and discuss (and get excited about) plans for the future of the campus really says a lot about the type of environment, and I feel lucky to be a part of it." Profile.

Anthony Gamblin, M.P.T. '04 – “The physical therapy program at UNE has prepared us to achieve - our patients will reap the rewards.” Profile.

Hilary Goulet, M.P.T. '02 – “The school had a very "family-oriented" atmosphere. The Physical Therapy Department, specifically, was very close. I thought of the professors more as friends and colleagues than anything else. The staff is a very approachable and very knowledgeable group. I miss them all dearly. Each professor has a very distinct clinical background that contributed to a very dynamic program.” Profile.

Dustin Hurd, '08 - "I have met wonderful friends and developed respect for the quality instructors. I am able to pursue research in my own area of interest. Most of all, I am confident the combination of coursework at UNE and clinical affiliations away from campus have helped me to be a strong clinician." Profile.

David Landquist, M.P.T. '03 – “The students in the physical therapy program become quite close, enabling a stronger educational experience. Overall, the University of New England's Physical Therapy Program offers a wonderful educational experience in classroom, lab, and clinical settings.” Profile.

Owen Lennon, D.P.T. '07- UNE's small, friendly atmosphere, great campus locations, and low student-to-teacher ratio combine to make classrooms more conducive to learning in comparison to larger universities. Faculty members are very approachable and show a genuine concern for the progress of every student.” Profile.

Jennifer Major, D.P.T. '07– “Most of lab is hands-on practice at assessment and healing techniques, which is so tangible and germane to life. It's great to be able to pursue a profession that is intellectual and yet does not require one to sit in front of a computer screen.” Profile.

Emily Malanchuk, Class of '08 - "At UNE the campus is not so big you get lost, and close enough to the beach or mountains to make you feel like a part of nature. This is one of the reasons I chose UNE, but the biggest reason was how nice all the people here were, not arrogant or snobbish like some other private colleges. From the professors to the students I always felt welcomed and important. " Profile.

Katherine Norton, M.P.T. '04 – “One of the great aspects of the UNE physical therapy program (other than the campus location) is the faculty. They truly become your peers throughout your experience and are willing to assist you at any time.” Profile.

Valerie Skroch, M.P.T. '02– “I sincerely believe that UNE did a great job of preparing me to work in a highly challenging and diverse setting. It was a great PT program!” Profile.

Matthew Somma, Class of 09 - "One thing I find very comforting at UNE is the availability of the professors on campus.  There have been many occasions where you go to the professor’s office hoping for a little extra help and you find the professor in their office with the door open and ready to help.  They are never too busy and are truly there to educate you and help you learn to your highest potential." Profile

Corey Sylvain, M.P.T. '02 –  “My schooling at UNE was nothing short of extraordinary. My clinical exposures definitely shaped me as a person and as a therapist. I had a rotation in acute care, neurological rehab, and outpatient orthopedics. I traveled for one affiliation and spent the other two in the southern Maine area. Having a clinical experience in three of the major physical therapy settings helped me decide on my area of practice upon graduation.” Profile.

Matthew P. Wallent, M.P.T. '03 -  "The best thing about the PT program is the staff. Each professor presents the material with confidence, competency, and thoroughness. When I have been on my clinical practicals, I have never been without pertinent information. If I don't recall something, it is usually in my notes or within the required texts. The staff is fun and personable, and all are great resources." Profile.
