Audrey S. LeBourdais '03, M.S.N.A.

School of Nurse Anesthesia

lebourdaisI graduated in 1984 from Northeastern University with a B.S.N. in nursing and practiced 17 years before deciding to return to school.

During that time I raised a family - I have four children, all school age. For the last 10 years I have worked in a post-anesthesia care unit. I began having an interest in becoming a C.R.N.A. while the children where still young, but was not ready to make the commitment.

Once the kids went to school, and after encouragement from the anesthesia group with which I worked, I decided to apply to anesthesia school.

Managing Classes and Family

With an already busy life style (two kids in grammar school, one in middle, one in high school), I was concerned about the demands of C.R.N.A. school and being able to balance family and school. The University of New England front-loads the majority of the required classes. During my first year in the M.S.N.A. program, I traveled to Maine from Tuesday through Thursday each week and was able to be home with my family for the rest of the week.

Clinical experiences at UNE are varied. I was able to set one up within my hometown, Hudson, N.H. It was a great experience. In just eight months, I have given anesthesia to more than 520 patients and learned new things every day.

UNE is a great place to obtain an M.S.N.A. The program is small, and everyone is friendly and willing to help make the experience as positive as can be. Classes are also small, and friendships develop quickly. Plenty of support is always available.
