UNECOM Research Fellowship Information
The University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine anticipates funding up to 9 medical student research projects starting summer 2008. Research projects can have an applied, basic science, community health, clinical or osteopathic orientation. Students who have a project or an area of interest in mind should contact an appropriate UNECOM faculty member to discuss and finalize a proposal. Projects may be supervised by any faculty member at UNE, and can last no more than 1 calendar year. If the applicant chooses a project outside of UNE, a UNE faculty advisor should also be identified in order to ensure that institutional guidelines are followed.
Deadline for application is April 4th, 2008
Application ProcessA. Applicants must write a formal application using the following guidelines:
1.Specific aims of the project (1/2 page)
2. Brief background and significance of the problem, with specific goals to be attained (1/2-1 page)
3. Methods of approach (1-2 pages)
4. Literature cited (no more than 10 references)
B. Letter from sponsor indicating willingness to supervise applicant, availability of space and resources to conduct research, and method by which applicants will be evaluated.

D. Recipients will be required to participate in a forum designed to disseminate information to new medical students on or before summer 2009. The presentation may be in the form of a poster presentation and/or an oral presentation. Recipients are encouraged to present at a national or regional research conference.
