The Center for Health Ethics, Law and Policy, a unit of the College of Health Professions located on the Westbrook College Campus in Portland, conducts educational programs, community outreach and research focusing on ethical issues affecting every day clinical practice as well as examining the broad ethical and legal issues affecting health care and efforts at health-care reform. The Center for Health Policy, Planning and Research is a unit of the UNE College of Osteopathic Medicine and is located on the Westbrook College Campus in Portland. The Center specializes in health policy, program and services planning through population need studies, best practice assessments, and the design and evaluation of health system improvement projects for the private and public sector. The Citizenship Service-Learning Center is a resource of the Citizenship 400 Seminar, the senior seminar of the University's Core Curriculum. A requirement of the seminar is that students engage in service learning activities within the community. Clinical Simulation Program at the University of New England' College of Health Professions uses ‘high fidelity’ patient simulators placed in realistic clinical settings such as patient exam, trauma and operating rooms to produce a real-life environment for both UNE students and health professionals from a variety of organizations and healthcare institutions from around the state and throughout New England. Coastal Healthy Communities Coalition (CHCC), a unit of the College of Osteopathic Medicine's Division of Community Programs, is located on the University Campus in Biddeford. It is one of 31 coalitions funded by the Bureau of Health with Maine’s tobacco settlement monies. The CHCC’s main goals are to promote and support tobacco prevention and cessation activities as well as encouraging life-long physical activity and nutritional habits. Website.The College Community Mentoring Program (CCMP) is a volunteer mentoring program for UNE students to serve as mentors for local K-8 students and provide the youth with supportive and reliable adult role models. Mentoring takes place in schools and at after-school programs. Website Community Occupational Therapy Clinic provides screening, evaluation and testing, consultations and direct therapy services. Services are provided to children and adults with developmental disorders, learning disabilities, behavior disturbances and physical challenges. The Office of Continuing Medical Education, College of Osteopathic Medicine, offers continuing medical education conferences, workshops and symposia throughout the year to provide physicians and other health professionals with information on the latest practices and research in healthcare. The UNE Office of Continuing Medical Education is accredited by both the American Osteopathic Association and the Maine Medical Association to offer continuing medical education credit for both D.O.s and M.D.s., as well as physician assistants.
