Maine Coast Sportfish Trackers is a research and education project through which UNE marine biologists are studying the migratory habits of striped bass that inhabit the waters of the Saco River and adjacent coastal waters of the Gulf of Maine. The Maine Women Writers Collection is a pre-eminent special collection of literary, cultural and social history sources by and about women authors, either natives or residents of Maine. The Marine Animal Rehabilitation Center (MARC), a division of the Marine Science Education and Research Center. The Rehabilitation Center is part of a network of centers authorized by the National Marine Fisheries Service to rescue and rehabilitate stranded marine animals, including seals, porpoises, and sea turtles. The Marine Science Education and Research Center (MSC) at UNE is a 27,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility with a flow-through seawater system. MatureCare, a unit of the College of Osteopathic Medicine's Division on Aging, is Maine’s largest geriatric physician and physician extender group practice in Maine. The New England Institute is an initiative by UNE's College of Arts and Sciences to foster research and education in a new interdisciplinary area: the connection between cognitive science (the investigation of the deep structures that lie beneath our conscious mind) and evolutionary psychology (the study of the human mind and behavior from a biological perspective). The Performance Enhancement and Evaluation Center will be a center devoted to learning and assessment of patient evaluation skills. The PEEC will include both high-tech patient simulators and "standardized patients" - people trained to realistically and consistently portray a patient. The new Clinical Simulation Program, a key component of PEEC, currently uses ‘high fidelity’ patient simulators placed in realistic clinical settings such as patient exam, trauma and operating rooms to produce a real-life environment for both UNE students and health professionals from various organizations in the region. Contact: Carl M.
