The University of New England has a number of resources on its Portland and Biddeford campuses of special interest to the community.

The Area Health Education Center (AHEC), a unit of the College of Osteopathic Medicine's Division of Community Programs, is located on the University Campus in Biddeford. AHEC promotes delivery of health care education and resources to rural and underserved communities within a nine-county area of Maine. Contact: Mark D. The Art Gallery, at the Westbrook College Campus in Portland, has a permanent collection of paintings, sculptures, drawings and photographs by nationally and internationally famous artists. The Body Donor Program, College of Osteopathic Medicine. All physicians must have a thorough knowledge of the structure of the human body. This is obtained early in their medical education by studying anatomy through the dissection of the human body. The need for human bodies can be met only if people interested in medical education arrange to contribute their bodies to a medical school immediately following death. BodyWise: The Health and Wellness Education Department is housed under the Division of Student Affairs and is located in the Campus Center on the University Campus in Biddeford, Maine. There are three programs within the department: The HealthFirst Student Wellness Program, addressing student health and the campus climate; the UNE Employee Wellness Program, designed to foster a healthy work environment; and the BodyWise Community Wellness Program, serving UNE alumni and the surrounding Biddeford community. The Center for Community and Public Health (CCPH) brings together unique groups representing many different disciplines at UNE to integrate their own areas of expertise into a greater mission to build community and public health programs at UNE. Website.
The Center for Excellence in the Neurosciences focuses on a multidisciplinary approach to research in the neurosciences as it relates to the treatment of neurological disease. The center holds a number of lectures, seminars and other events that are open to the public. Website.
The Center for Global Humanities at the University of New England is a University-wide, interdisciplinary program dedicated to the study of human destiny in the 21st century. The center hosts a number of lectures, seminars and other events that are open to the public. Website.
The Center for Health Policy, Planning and Research is a unit of the UNE College of Osteopathic Medicine and is located on the Westbrook College Campus in Portland. The Center specializes in health policy, program and services planning through population need studies, best practice assessments, and the design and evaluation of health system improvement projects for the private and public sector. The Citizenship Service-Learning Center is a resource of the Citizenship 400 Seminar, the senior seminar of the University's Core Curriculum. A requirement of the seminar is that students engage in service learning activities within the community. The Clinical Simulation Program at the University of New England' College of Health Professions uses ‘high fidelity’ patient simulators placed in realistic clinical settings such as patient exam, trauma and operating rooms to produce a real-life environment for both UNE students and health professionals from a variety of organizations and healthcare institutions from around the state and throughout New England. Coastal Healthy Communities Coalition (CHCC), a unit of the College of Osteopathic Medicine's Division of Community Programs, is located on the University Campus in Biddeford. It is one of 31 coalitions funded by the Bureau of Health with Maine’s tobacco settlement monies. The CHCC’s main goals are to promote and support tobacco prevention and cessation activities as well as encouraging life-long physical activity and nutritional habits. The College Community Mentoring Program (CCMP) is a volunteer mentoring program for UNE students to serve as mentors for local K-8 students and provide the youth with supportive and reliable adult role models. Mentoring takes place in schools and at after-school programs. Community Occupational Therapy Clinic provides screening, evaluation and testing, consultations and direct therapy services. Services are provided to children and adults with developmental disorders, learning disabilities, behavior disturbances and physical challenges. Conferences Services, a division of Facilities Management, can assist organizations in planning conferences and special events and also rents space on both the Biddeford and Portland campuses to organizations planning their own special events. (207) 221-4413. Website.
The Office of Continuing Education develops credit and non-credit courses, workshops, and services for individuals seeking to meet their educational goals on a part-time basis. University courses and programs are designed and offered in a variety of flexible formats to accommodate students seeking to balance work, family, and other responsibilities. Website.
The Office of Continuing Medical Education, College of Osteopathic Medicine, offers continuing medical education conferences, workshops and symposia throughout the year to provide physicians and other health professionals with information on the latest practices and research in healthcare. The UNE Office of Continuing Medical Education is accredited by both the American Osteopathic Association and the Maine Medical Association to offer continuing medical education credit for both D.O.s and M.D.s., as well as physician assistants. The Office of Continuing Professional Education, a division of the College of Health Professions, offers courses, workshops, conferences and symposia throughout the year to provide local, regional, national and international clinicians and administrators with timely and critical information in health care. Deborah Morton Society honors outstanding Maine women who have achieved high distinction in their careers and public service through the annual Deborah Morton Awards. The society also actively fundraises to support the Deborah Morton Endowed Scholarship which is also awarded annually to a Maine student from the University’s Westbrook College Campus. Website.
The Dental Hygiene Clinic, a learning laboratory for students in the Dental Hygiene Program at the Westbrook College Campus in Portland, provides low-cost oral health services to more than 4,000 Portland-area residents each year. The Ergonomics Video Display Terminal Program is an online guide to improving the ergonomics of your video display terminal workstation. The purpose of this manual is to help users understand the body structures at risk for a cumulative trauma disorder and to suggest ways to decrease the risk of having one of these problems. The Faculty and Staff Expertise and Research Directory is a guide is designed to help visitors easily find faculty and staff who have expertise in a certain academic field and faculty and staff who are conducting research and scholarship on particular topics. Website
The Health Literacy Institute (HLI), a unit of the Center for Health Policy, Planning and Research, is located on the Westbrook Campus in Portland. The Maine Women Writers Collection is a pre-eminent special collection of literary, cultural and social history sources by and about women authors, either natives or residents of Maine. The Marine Animal Rehabilitation Center (MARC), a division of the Marine Science Education and Research Center. The Rehabilitation Center is part of a network of centers authorized by the National Marine Fisheries Service to rescue and rehabilitate stranded marine animals, including seals, porpoises, and sea turtles. The Marine Science Education and Research Center (MSC) at UNE is a 27,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility with a flow-through seawater system. NSF GK-12 STEM Fellows SPARTACUS Project - A Systemic PARTnership Aimed at Connecting University and School (SPARTACUS) project forms linkages among university researchers and their graduate students with the K-12 community. Focusing on the hydrologic cycle in a coastal watershed it conveys the importance of interdisciplinary efforts in scientific and social issues, to K-12 students and teachers through the work of Graduate Fellows and their advisors. Interrelationships of physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, and geology are examined in a local watershed using the Saco River Coastal Observing System (SaRCOS). It investigates how precipitation drives river discharge, which in turn, governs the coastal current, which influences coastal weather. While scientifically important, these phenomena are also tangible to students at all levels. Website
