Welcome to the University of New England College of Dental Medicine!
Our mission is to “improve the health of Northern New England and shape the future of dentistry through excellence in education, discovery and service.”
The University of New England College of Dental Medicine is well positioned to successfully pursue this lofty goal. The interprofessional education we provide, in cooperation with UNE’s Colleges of Health Professions, Medicine, and Pharmacy, equips our graduates to improve not only the oral health, but also the overall health, of the patients they treat.
Under the leadership of our founding Dean (now Provost) James J. Koelbl, D.D.S., M.S., M.J., the CDM’s first class of 64 bright, enthusiastic students matriculated in August 2013. Northern New England is well represented in the graduating Class of 2017, which includes 24 students (representing 11 counties) from Maine, and 9 students from New Hampshire and Vermont. The remaining members of the class have diverse backgrounds and hail from all over the country and the world. In August 2014, we will double the size of our student body as we welcome another talented, hard-working class of students to the college. We could not be more thrilled.
In addition, we have recruited a core group of outstanding faculty and staff who are dedicated to working together to educate the next generation of oral health professionals. As experienced and respected dental practitioners, our faculty will exemplify the CDM’s values of caring, compassion, leadership and excellence both in the classroom and in the clinic.
To support the dual role of dental education and patient care, the College of Dental Medicine has the added benefit of superb facilities. Our new Oral Health Center provides a state-of-the-art simulation clinic and patient care clinic, both of which utilize the very latest technology in the field of dental medicine. A short walk from the OHC, our administrative offices reside in historic Goddard Hall on UNE’s Portland Campus.
Now that everything has fallen into place—including students, faculty, staff, facilities and university support—the College of Dental Medicine is poised to become one of the preeminent dental schools in the United States.
