Elevator Emergencies

If you are trapped in an elevator:

1. Remain calm and verify that the stop button has not been inadvertently pushed.
2. Check for the telephone.  These phones ring directly into the Department of Safety and Security and provide the dispatcher with your location.
3. Call out for help.

If you discover someone trapped in an elevator:

1. Reassure the trapped person(s) and remind them to stay calm.
2. If possible, send one person to call the Department of Safety and Security (x366) while another person remains outside the elevator with the trapped individual(s).
