Faculty Sabbatical Leave Benefit

The purpose of sabbatical leave is to provide a mechanism for continuing professional development of faculty in a manner that ultimately will benefit the faculty member, the students, the University, and the academic community at large. The sabbatical leave should provide an opportunity for continued professional growth as an educator and new (or renewed) intellectual achievement through teaching, study, research, writing, and travel.

Sabbatical leave is a privilege and a benefit for a faculty member. It is not to be considered a form of compensation to which a faculty member is automatically entitled. It is also not intended to be primarily an opportunity for employment at another institution. Sabbatical leave is intended to promote the professional development of all full-time faculty members, including those who are likely to stay at the institution for a long period and those for whom there is no such assurance.
