All regular full-time faculty members (including both academic and clinical non-tenure-track faculty) are eligible for sabbatical leave for each six years of service to the University. Other official leaves of absence during which benefits remain in effect (for example, parental or health-related leaves) may, at the dean's recommendation, be counted as full-time service in determining eligibility for sabbatical leave. The sabbatical leave may immediately precede or follow a vacation period. Should a faculty member apply for tenure and sabbatical concurrently, a final approval for sabbatical will be contingent upon the awarding of tenure.
Eligible faculty members are entitled to leaves of one semester or the equivalent for their program at full salary or a full academic year at half salary. Sabbatical pay for faculty will be based on their contracted academic salary as faculty, excluding any additional stipends received for administrative duties, overload teaching, or other responsibilities. Sabbatical pay for a faculty member will not be influenced by the cost of replacing that faculty member during his or her absence. Faculty members will be entitled to full fringe benefits (insurances, retirement annuity contributions, etc.) during sabbatical leave.
Faculty will not be allowed to accumulate sabbatical leave and, for example, take one year at full salary after twelve years of service. The opportunity will be provided by the University for faculty to take sabbatical leave after every sixth year of service. It is the responsibility of the faculty member to make appropriate use of these opportunities as they arise. The minimum interval between successive sabbatical leaves will be six years.
