Information Session

The Division of Student Affairs cordially invites you to join us for our Annual Family and Friends Weekend taking place Friday, September 30th through Sunday October 2nd. A UNE tradition, Family and Friends Weekend is designed to welcome our extended UNE family back to campus, providing an opportunity to observe and participate in our vibrant community. 

 

Family and Friends Weekend showcases all aspects of the University with events that include academic presentations, athletics competitions, delicious seasonal food, as well as a variety of entertainment and outdoor recreation opportunities. 

Please join your student for the fun and memory-making that marks our Family and Friends Weekend. Learn with us. Laugh with us. Celebrate with us!

Friday, September 30, 2016                                                                       

8TH ANNUAL STUDY ABROAD FAIR        

11 am - 2 pm, Decary Function Rooms
This is a drop-in fair for students to get information about our semester programs in Morocco, Spain and France, as well as all the faculty-led travel courses, and a few 3rd party providers offering programs around the world.  Representatives will be on hand to talk one-on-one with interested students.

Visit us at the Campus Center Lobby to collect a schedule for the weekend, register for events and pick up information about our campus and community.       

Women's Rugby vs Castleton

6 - 8 PM, Hazard Field
Go Big Blue!! Stop by the Hazard Fields and and cheer on UNE's newest varsity sport, Women's Rugby as they take on Castleton. 

Saco River S’mores

7 - 9 pm, Kiosk
Bring the whole family to the Kiosk for a beautiful autumn evening on the banks of the Saco river. Enjoy  hot apple cider and make your own S’mores while making new friends! Weather permitting.           

Cosmic Skate

7 - 9 pm, Harold Alfond Forum
Lace up your skates and enjoy an evening of skating. Warm up with some hot chocolate and cookies. A limited number of skate rentals are available on a first come first serve basis. UNE has many different sizes of skates that are great for college age students. Smaller children should attempt to bring their own skates if they are hoping to get on the ice. HAF Ice Sheet        Athletics, Forum        teams preset if possible, catering needed

Casino Royale           

8-11 PM, Alfond Center for Health Sciences 2nd Floor Lobby
Try your luck at our casino! Don’t worry about bringing front money; we’ll supply you with everyting you need to play. Prizes will be drawn at 11 pm, you do not need to present to win. Hors d’oeuvres and light refreshments will bring the taste of Vegas to this fun night!                  

Southern Maine Open Mic Night    

11 - 1 am, Campus Center
Southern Maine Open Mic Night, a student favorite, will feature some of UNE’s very own artists, artists! Family and friends are welcome to bring along their musical instruments and talents, and join us on stage for this Family and Friends Weekend Tradition.

SURE Research Symposium

9 am - 12 pm, Campus Center
Please join us as our Summer Undergraduate Research Students showcase their research accomplishments. Posters are available for viewing in the Campus Center MPRs with oral presentations from 10:30 am to 12 pm.

Lax 4 Life (Men’s)

9 am - 4 pm, Big Blue Field Athletics
Now in its 10th year, Lax-4-Life has raised more than $21,000 for The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center since its inception in 2007. The UNE men’s and women’s lacrosse teams are pleased to host teams from around the region for this event. On Saturday October 1st the men will host Bentley University, Johnson & Wales, Anna Maria and Lyndon State. On Sunday October 2nd the women’s team will play host to Plymouth State University and the University of Southern Maine.

This leisurely ride will allow you to see the University grounds and the Saco and Biddeford area from a different perspective. There will be lots of opportunity to hear the history of this area and view the river’s wildlife.

Craft Fair & Farmer’s Market         

10 am - 2 pm, Campus Center
UNE students, staff, and community artisans and farmers will present crafts and local produce. Jewelry, paper products, baked goods, knitted items, photo prints, home goods, vegetables and more will all be availalbe!

Big-Blue-Que (BBQ) 

11 - 2 pm, Riverview Tent
Celebrate the Nor'easter spirit on the banks of the Saco River. Come and grab lunch with your student before your fun filled afternoon.

This leisurely ride will allow you to see the University grounds and the Saco and Biddeford area from a different perspective. There will be lots of opportunity to hear the history of this area and view the river’s wildlife.

Saco River kayak loan      

12 - 5 pm, Hazard Field
A great way to get out and explore the beautiful Saco River and see Campus from a different perspective. Paddle up river or leisurely float around the Big Blue Cove, nothing is better than experiencing UNE by kayak! a limited number of boats are available to be signed out throughout the day.      

Historic downtown mill tour (BUY TICKETS NOW)

1 - 2:50 pm, Leave from Campus Center Circle
Explore downtown Biddeford's historic textile mill with guides Don Guillerault and Delilah Poupore. This two hour tour will take you through the story of southern Maine's industrial evolution nd end with a tasting/tour of one of Biddeford's local breweries. Please note participants will need to sign a waiver on arrival, should plan to wear close-toed shoes for the tour and will need to be 21+ to participate in the tasting (IDs are required).

Lobster Bake

Enjoy a classic Maine feast! Join us for the “Maine Course” at our Riverview Tent; a dinner of fresh Maine lobster with all the necessary accoutrements. For those who do not enjoy shellfish, other menu items will be available so don’t miss out. As it is necessary for us to place a special order for the lobsters with our vendor, please be aware that we are unable to accept registration for this event past 5pm on September 28.       

Mike Birbiglia: Thank God For Jokes  (BUY TICKETS NOW)

9 - 10 pm, Harold Alfond Forum
Join UNE's Student Activities Programming Board as they welcome comedian, writer, actor, and director, Mike Birbiglia, to the Forum for his Thank God For Jokes national tour. Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for family and friends. Doors open at 8 p.m.

The Windward Café offers organic and local produce as well as local organic bottled soda. With free WiFi and a bright dining and study area, we have become the hotspot on campus where students and staff meet over lunch or dinner to work on group projects, or simply unwind with a Caramel Macchiato. Whether you start or end your day with us, you know it'll be worth it when you're dining at the Windward Café. 

The Hang
Campus Center
The Hang is all about gathering with your roommates and friends to eat good food in a relaxed atmosphere. It's the kind of place where you can sit down to watch the big game, play pool or both. We offer weekly specials and a menu composed of all the foods that college students love. With vegetarian options as well as a line of ready-to-go sandwiches, fruit and dessert parfaits, the Hang has something for you. So whether it's an energy drink to get through that long night of studying or a chicken quesadilla to celebrate the exam you aced, we've got what you crave.

The Forum 
Alfond Forum, first floor
The Grill section provides more of the same fresh ingredients. Our hamburger is made of beef from Pineland Farms in New Gloucester, Maine, and is absolutely amazing! If you prefer, we have a delicious grilled chicken sandwich, veggie burger or hot dog. All can be customized to your liking.
