Additional Information for Medical Students

Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine - First year of study
The College of Osteopathic Medicine requires all medical students to own a laptop computer. In accordance with this policy, the Financial Aid Office will recognize the one-time cost of purchasing a laptop computer as part of the first-year cost of attendance for medical students.

Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine - Fourth year of study

For medical students applying for financial aid, the fourth year of study begins in June and finishes in May. Unlike the first three years, when students receive financial aid for the fall and spring semesters, fourth-year UNECOM students will receive financial aid for the summer, fall, and spring semesters. For this reason, fourth-year medical students are encouraged to complete the financial aid application process as early in the spring semester as possible, to allow for adequate processing time.

Students will receive 3 loan disbursements for the fourth year. The first loan period is summer and fall (June-December) with loan disbursements scheduled for late May and the beginning of September.

The second loan period is spring only (January - May), with a loan disbursement scheduled for late December.

Students are charged tuition twice during the year - for the fall semester and for the spring semester. For this reason, students who borrow excess funds for living expenses will receive a refund in the summer, which will need to last through the fall semester. The fall disbursement of the funds will cover direct costs on the student's account.

COMLEX
The cost of the COMLEX Level 1 exam is included in the 2nd year cost of attendance.  The cost of the COMLEX Level 2 exam and the COMLEX Level 2 PE (plus travel costs) are included as part of the 4th year cost of attendance.  The cost of review courses may NOT be included in the cost of attendance, as they are not a requirement.
