Complete the 2008-2009 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
The FAFSA is used to determine your eligibility for Federal Stafford Loans for the summer 2008, fall 2008, and spring 2009 semesters. It should only be filed once per year. In order to allow sufficient time for processing, you should file the FAFSA as early as possible prior to the start of your first semester.
UNE recommends applying online, through FAFSA on the Web. Once you have submitted your FAFSA, allow 2-3 weeks for UNE to electronically receive your data from the federal processing center. Remember to include the University of New England’s Title IV Institution Code (002050).
Complete the UNE Distance Education Financial Aid Application
(Required for students in the MMEL, MPH and MSED video based program only)
The UNE Distance Education Financial Aid Application collects your intended enrollment for each semester. This information is used to determine your Federal Stafford Loan eligibility by semester.
Provide Verification Documents (if requested)
Your FAFSA may be selected for verification. This means that we are required to verify the accuracy of some of the items you reported on your FAFSA by reviewing signed copies of your 2007 federal income tax returns and W-2 forms, your spouse’s 2007 federal income tax returns and W-2 forms, and by verifying your household information and any sources of untaxed income. If you are selected for verification, we will send you a request for copies of your 2007 federal income tax returns and we will mail you a verification worksheet to complete.
Review your Award Letter from UNE
As soon as your financial aid application materials are complete, and we have determined your eligibility for financial aid, you will receive your financial aid award letter. Your award letter will provide your maximum eligibility for the Stafford Loan programs each semester.
You will not need to return the award letter to the Financial Aid Office unless:
