Student Employment Programs
The Federal Work Study Program

The Federal Work Study program is a federally funded program that provides opportunities for on-campus employment to eligible college students. It is a program of financial assistance that also provides students with gainful employment experience. The Federal Work Study program is not a grant program; students are paid for hours worked.

Federal Work Study is awarded to students based on their financial need, as defined by the Financial Aid Office. Each year a student's financial need must be recalculated; therefore, there is no guarantee that a student will continue to receive Federal Work Study funding.

Federal Work Study wages are subject to the same federal, state and local income taxes as any other earned income. Wages earned under this program must be included as taxable income on the student's federal and state income tax returns. A W-2 form is mailed to each student's permanent home address at the end of each tax year.

The Financial Aid Office is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal regulations, job placement, conflict management, and also acts as a liaison between supervisors, students, and the Payroll Office.
