Funding Opportunity for Maine Residents
The Maine Osteopathic Association through the assistance of the Osteopathic Heritage Fund have opened up a new low interest loan opportunity that was not previously available to osteopathic medical students who are Maine Residents. The fund earmarks 15% of the available low interest loan funds for osteopathic medical student applications per year on an on-going basis.

The Maine Medical Education Foundation (MMEF) was established by the Maine Medical Association to make loans to Maine Residents enrolled in or accepted to approved medical/osteopathic medical schools. This is a small fund set up on a rotating loan basis. The recipient of a loan from this fund is asked to repay the money as soon as possible so that it may be used for other deserving students. No interest is charged until graduation from medical school. Interest on the loan then starts at 1% for the first year after graduation and increases to 3% the second year and to 5% the third year and each year thereafter. No later than 36 months following graduation from medical school, repayment will begin in equal quarterly installments. Payments will be in such an amount as will repay the principal and accrued interest no later than 10 years from the date of graduation from medical school.

If a student who has received a loan from the Maine Medical Education Foundation discontinues his/her medical education, the loan becomes repayable in full, with interest at 5% on the unpaid balance, starting on the following January 1st.

If you wish to apply for a loan under this fund, please complete the  application and return it with the bulleted items below before May 1st t (Accepting Late Applications!!)
