Supporting COM

With the help of so many from the community, UNECOM’s $6 million fundraising campaign to build the first phase of a new biomedical research facility is close to completion!

The campaign to house UNECOM’s expanding research program began with the $1 million Pickus Challenge, the successful drive to meet that challenge, and significant support from the state of Maine.

A recent $1 million gift from Peter Morgane, Ph.D. has brought us even closer to our goal and we are now in the final push for support.

Facility’s Official Name Announced

In recognition of the $1 million Pickus Challenge at the critical beginning stages of this campaign, the building will be named the Pickus Center for Biomedical Research. Thank you to Owen Pickus, D.O., Geraldine Ollila-Pickus ’88, D.O. ’93 and The Robert Wallace Trust for their generous, ongoing support.

"The osteopathic community is very supportive of the medical school. We want it to be a 21st century medical school. A biomedical research center is something our physicians and the UNE community think is important. They embrace the idea."

Morgane Challenge

In addition to Peter Morgane’s $1 million gift, he issued a challenge – if the UNECOM community contributed $300,000 by December 31, 2007, Dr. Morgane would increase his gift by an additional $300,000.  We met and exceeded the challenge!
